A Victorian mnemonic to help young children remember the order of Britain's Kings and Queens was bought right up to date. A wonderful idea for a book full of history, interesting facts and nonsense. My wife and I put the whole design/project together.

What a wonderful project this was to work on! Dorothy Briley at Lothrop Lee and Shepard had wanted to publish a complete Aesop for some time. Over five hundred fables were researched! I looked mostly at two important sources: the fables of La Fontain, which were heavily influenced by Aesop and, my favourite, Thomas Bewick's edition. Bewick's wood-cuts influenced the look of drop caps' and black-and-white spots.
